Viscose silk is loved for its softness, fluid drape, and silky surface. The name usually refers to a viscose-based fabric with a smooth texture and a delicate sheen. Viscose fiber is made from processed cellulose; check each style’s description for the exact composition.

How the Fabric Feels
Soft, smooth, and fluid, slightly cool at first touch. It drapes over the figure instead of holding a stiff shape. The smooth weave gives it glide, especially noticeable in relaxed shirts, pants, and nightgowns. Viscose silk and natural silk can look alike, but they are different fibers that behave differently in the wash.
What Temperatures It Suits
Viscose absorbs moisture well. Light, smooth fabrics based on it are usually comfortable in a warm room and in summer. They are less warm than napped fabrics. In a cool home, add a robe; if you tend to feel cold, compare with flannel or velour.
Durability, Wrinkling, and Shrinkage
The fabric can wrinkle and feels denser when wet. Regular viscose stretches more easily when wet, so don’t pull wet garments or hang them by thin straps. Hot water, heavy friction, and tumble drying increase the risk of shrinkage. Protect the smooth surface from snags.
Easy Care
- Follow the care label. If washing is allowed, choose a delicate cycle up to 86°F (30°C) or hand wash with mild detergent.
- Turn inside out and separate lights and darks; protect thin straps and lace in a mesh bag.
- Don’t soak for long or wring. Keep mechanical stress to a minimum.
- Gently smooth out without stretching and air dry in the shade.
- Iron inside out on the setting allowed by the label; test the temperature on a hidden spot.
Who It’s For
For anyone who wants light pajamas with a fluid silhouette and a smooth surface. For a warm, cozy feel, try flannel or velour.
Composition and finishing can change care requirements: the label on each product always takes priority.
